The red dress ensures you'll stand out in a crowd, look sexy, sassy, classy and fabulous. Yet sometimes you can't don the red confection without a little cover-up, and the shawl is it! Think of your shawl as a fashion accessory, like a handbag, and have fun with the color you choose. With subtle hue variations of your shawl, you can achieve totally different red dress ensembles.

Red

An easy route to take is matching your shawl to your dress. You can do this precisely and find the exact same color, or you can pick another shade from the red hue and display various reds to your event. Variations of your dress color will add some depth to your outfit, as well as some visual interest.

Turquoise

Though it may not be the first color you jump toward when looking to match red, maybe it should! "Glamour" notes that this beautiful green-blue tone is super hot with a vibrant red. What better way to incorporate this look into your outfit than a shawl? "Glamour" does warn that you should only choose one turquoise piece, though, so limit the color to your shawl.

Black

An easy go-to color that works in a myriad of occasions is black. Black matches well with your red dress and works for winter or fall months where you generally wear darker colors. To lighten up the black, go for a crocheted shawl or one with a subtle black pattern on it instead of solid black.

White

Red and white are expert complements and bring out the best in each other. To show off the vibrancy of your red, choose a bright white color that offers a high contrast to your dress. For a toned-down juxtaposition, go with an off-white or cream shawl. This look works year-round with whatever red dress you're donning, whether it's short or long, silky or matte.
