What Color Nail Polish With Pewter Shoes

Classic red polish always looks fierce.

Just because you're wearing pewter shoes doesn't mean you need to paint your nails pewter, too. While picking a nail color to wear with brightly colored shoes can sometimes be a challenge, pewter is a pretty neutral color, which means you have plenty of fun options when it comes to nail polish colors.

Choosing a Classic Color

You really can't go wrong with classic red nail polish, and it'll totally pop against pewter. If you go this route, pick a shade of red that's harmonious with your skin tone. A blue-based red will contrast well with pale ivory skin, while an orange-red polish will take the ruddiness out of skin with pink undertones. For ladies with golden undertones or dark skin, opt for a polish in a bright, true red.

Flattering Shades

If you don't want to worry about colors clashing with your skin tone, a few colors flatter every skin tone. Since pewter is a neutral, gray shade, these colors will match your shoes too. Colors like eggplant and Indian teal are smack dab in the middle of the color wheel, which means they're not overly warm or cool. You can also try a mellow rose shade, which falls between peach and light pink and works like a neutral against skin tones.

Neutral Nails

Go for a totally neutral nail polish if the idea of picking a color is stressing you out. For a low-key look that's still a little fancy, rock a french manicure. Classic white nail tips will give you a sophisticated look that won't compete with your pewter footwear. Or opt for a plain clear gloss, which will give your nails a colorless shine. To step a little outside the box, try a neutral cement gray nail polish with a clear coat on top for added gleam.

Bold Choices

Pewter shoes look pretty glam, so paint your nails in an equally glam color. Bright metallic silver nails aren't the most traditional choice, but paired with pewter they will absolutely pop. Choose a bright silver that looks significantly lighter than your pewter shoes for contrast, and add a clear coat to give your nails a tinfoil-esque shine. If you want something even glitzier, try silver glitter polish. Finally, for a neutral with edge, channel your inner hard rock babe and go for black nails.
