One of the easiest ways to tell whether you have a cool or warm skin tone is to look at the veins in your wrist. Blue and blue-green veins tell you that you have a cool skin tone, while green or blue-purple veins indicate a warm tone. Knowing the tone of your skin is essential in picking the right makeup shades. If you've got blue-green veins -- and hence a cool skin tone -- you've got more than enough makeup colors to pick from and when you wear the right colors, you enhance your natural beauty rather than take away from it.
Neutral shades such as light browns and even silvery-brown colors look really fab against your cool skin tone. Try a taupe-colored eye shadow or eye liner to really make your peepers pop. Taupes, bronzes, mocha browns and other cool brown colors all work well against your skin. Stay away from anything too dark, like chocolate browns and blacks, which can be too harsh against your lighter skin coloring.
Pink is one of the best choices for you as a woman with a cool skin tone. All of the colors in the pink family, such as pink peaches, apricot pinks and rose pinks, work on you, so find blushes, lipsticks, lip glosses and more of your favorite makeup products in these colors. When worn on your cheeks and lips, these pink-based hues bring color to your face and make you look flushed and healthy.
You can rock red lips, even though your skin is quite fair. It's a big contrast, but it works -- especially if you keep the rest of your makeup to a minimum, so it's not overwhelming -- with the right shade of red. Instead of burgundy and other darker red hues, stick with a bright, vibrant cherry red to play perfectly off your cool skin tone.
Purple is a top pick for cool skin tones, worn either as a lipstick with purple undertones, or as a bold purple eye shadow you can wear alone or blended in with other colors for a really dramatic look. Add a bit of a gray shadow around the outer corners of your eyes after applying the purple shadow for an instant sultry, smoky eye effect.
If you've got really fair skin and light hair like Cameron Diaz, black liner and mascara can be too harsh. Instead, opt for a medium to light brown shade as your liner and mascara color of choice, so you accentuate and play up your eyes without overpowering them.
