When wearing a flashy dress, you need an accessory just as flashy to pull off the sizzling style. A shiny necklace or bright bracelet may do, but why not sass up your hairstyle to pull off the look? Add some sparkle to your lovely locks by coloring your hair with aluminum foil strips. Professional hair stylists use aluminum foil to streak color to create bold and classy styles, and so can you. Get ready for some sizzling stuff and a new hair color to strut your style.
1.
Select a shade that contrasts well with your existing color. If you want to maintain a subtle look, choose a highlighting color that is two shades off from your current color. Be bold and mix in a little red, blue or green to bring out your inner wild child. For all-over hair color, get glamorous and sassy with a color that complements your skin tone.
2.
Mix the hair color in a bowl or in a container enclosed in the color packaging. Combine the developer and color cream according to the package directions. Put on plastic gloves to protect your hands, and mix for at least 30 seconds.
3.
Clip back sections of your hair, leaving loose strands free. If you want to highlight only a few sections, portion off thicker chunks of hair to create a multi-tonal, high-end look. For a more subtle, highlighting style, leave smaller strands free.
4.
Cut aluminum foil into 5-inch strips, or use pre-cut foil strands. Place a loose section of your hair over the foil strip. Comb out any tangles in the strand of hair with a rat-tail comb, brushing the hair over the foil strip. Contain the section of hair firmly with one hand over the foil strip, making sure you capture any flyaway hairs.
5.
Soak a tint brush with hair color from the mixing bowl. Hold the foil strip steady and paint the designated section of your hair with your new vibrant color. Fully coat both sides of your hair over the foil strip while holding the foil steady. Wipe away any drips with a clean, dry towel.
6.
Fold up the foil strip in thirds, starting at the bottom end of your hair. Pinch the foil strip together once the fold reaches the root of your hair. Repeat the process for the remaining sections of hair.
7.
Let the color sit for the recommended time on the color packaging (typically 20 to 30 minutes). Take a peek at your processing color to make sure it is sassy or subtle enough for your style. Rinse color with warm water until the drain water is clear. Shampoo, condition and style.
If coloring gets messy, wipe away drips on your skin immediately with a washcloth and cold water. Permanent hair color can stain, so treat your clothing immediately with a stain remover if you spill.
