How to Find Clothes That Don't Show Sweat Stains

Synthetic fabrics, like the kinds found in work shirts, are great for repelling sweat.

Oh, sweat stains: the bane of youth, of nervousness, of simply of being too warm! Sometimes, it doesn't matter how confident you feel on the inside if you have sweat stains showing on the outside. And isn't it frustrating when you pick out a super cute shirt, only to realize it's on the sweat stain blacklist? It's time find some clothes that will keep your sweaty moments a secret.

1.

If it's a hot day, steer clear of cotton since it'll cling to your skin and reveal moisture. Opt for materials like silk, linen and spandex, since they repel wetness.

2.

If it's winter and you're battling sweat stains, give layering a try. Thick cotton sweatshirts, wool sweaters and cardigans are great for masking sweat stains --- and you're free to wear whatever kind of shirt you want underneath, as long as you don't plan on shedding your top layer.

3.

Consider the style of the shirt you're picking out. If you're worried about armpit stains, choose sleeveless shirts, tube tops, or tops with low-dipping sleeves that won't rub against the armpit area. If you're worried about sweat in the torso area, pick looser fitting shirts that won't cling to your skin when you sit down.

4.

Do a little experimenting at home. Grab a few of the shirts you have --- make sure they're all made of different materials --- and pour a little bit of water on them. Which ones look like they're soaked? Which ones don't even seem to look wet? Read the labels of the ones that repel water, and look for those same materials when you're shopping.

Tips & Tricks

To keep moisture at bay, avoid caking on too much deodorant (just a swipe or two will do). Use an antibacterial soap in the shower and follow up with an antiperspirant at night when your sweat glands are more likely to plug up faster. Also, try patting on some baby powder over your deodorant before you head out the door --- it'll help absorb some moisture and keep you drier for longer.
