1.
Choose a formula and shade of foundation. The formula is what suits your face's texture the best -- for example, if you have dry skin, liquid foundation is a better fit than mineral powders. Your best shade of foundation is one that disappears when you gently blend it into your skin. Test it by making a stripe from your cheekbone to your jawline, then try a shade lighter and a shade darker. The best one blends right in with your natural tone.
2.
Get a bronzer to bring out the natural caramel tones of your face. If your skin is a little darker, try using it as a highlighter on top of your cheekbones to bring out your bone structure. If your skin is a lighter shade of caramel, bronzer adds warmth to areas such as your temples and chin, as well.
3.
Stick to deep colors to complement your natural coloring. Bronze, deep reds, purples and plums are all complementary hues for your deep skin tone.
4.
Pick an eye shadow that goes with your shade of caramel and your eyes. For example, caramel skin is a good fit for both dark and light colors, like seaweed green or a pearly green. If you can't choose, refer to your eyes for guidance -- if they're green, try a color like taupe or moss. If they're brown, try mocha, stone or bark.
5.
Choose a lip color that matches your own lip color -- your everyday lip color should simply enhance your natural tone. For example, if you have darker lips, try a dark color like deep chocolate or plum. For medium-tone lips, you can pull off colors like pink, orange or warm red.
