You know how to alter your outfit for day-to-night wear, but you can also alter your makeup to do the same thing. Changing up your lip color alone can take you from the unassuming, naturalistic neutral tones of daytime to the sultry, dark and mysterious hues of the night. Pairing your lip color with your natural tones is always crucial, especially when you have honey skin, which can fall between fair and medium on the color spectrum. By choosing the right type and applying it with care, though, you can rock out a deep lip color that goes with any evening occasion.

1.

Read your lips. Your natural lip color is your biggest clue when making your decision, so even if you go with a color deeper than your own, it should fall on the same spectrum. For example, if you have medium lips, warm red is one of your best deep color choices. If you have dark lips, your options expand to include things like deep chocolate and deep raisin.

2.

Embrace your honey complexion with warm tones. Deep lip colors loaded with reds and oranges are ideal for darker honey tones.

3.

Go with a lip color that you can apply with a brush, especially if you have light-to-medium lips. Deep lip color can be overwhelming when over-applied, so brushing it on lightly is your best option if you need to go easy on the color.

Tips & Tricks

Avoid deep lip colors if you have thin lips -- it accentuates their small size.
