Finding the right concealer is tricky, no matter what your skin tone, but when you have dark brown skin, you have an extra challenge. According to celebrity makeup artist Bobbi Brown, dark brown skin tones can vary across the face, with darker skin around the forehead and lighter skin on the cheeks. You might need to experiment a little, then -- some women actually need to blend two, three or even four colors to find just the right shade to accommodate their skin tone. But not to worry -- by looking at the makeup you already have, you can get a good idea of where to start.

Look at your face to determine what exactly you need to conceal -- this determines the type of concealer you need. For example, if you have darkness under the eyes, use an under-eye concealer. These have a creamy consistency and are lighter in color than other concealers so that they can balance out the dark coloring. Matte-finish liquid concealers, on the other hand, are better for covering blemishes.

Check the shade on your foundation and buy a concealer that is one to two shades lighter.

Use a concealer with yellow undertones first, as these are the type most women use, including women with dark brown skin. If it looks ashy against your skin, though, switch to something with orange or golden undertones, which may suit your complexion better.

Tips & Tricks

If you're having a hard time getting a concealer that blends with your skin tone, don't be afraid to put two different shades on your face and blend them together.
