Designer baggage, or a pretender? Only you and Sparky know, and he won't tell.

Cheap handbags are one of the hardest accessories to find. Depending on fabric and trim, cheap handbags can look . . . well, cheap. If you stick with certain fabrics, shop the right stores and stay with tried-and-true brands, your friends just might think you've received a raise. Go ahead and plan yourself a little bargain-bag shopping trip -- then plan a fun night out to show off your cheap but totally chic finds!

Canvas Totes

When choosing a cheap handbag, canvas totes are a total fake-out! Because so many high-end designers feature canvas totes, this is one of the best cheap look-alike handbag purchases. We're talking under $20. Rock them all year long. Not only do they look fantastic with trendy summer outfits like maxi dresses and tunics, but they give off a cool vibe in winter. Pair them with bulky sweaters, jeans and boots. Plus, you can hold so much of your favorite girly necessities.

Crocodile Rock

When purchasing a faux bag, go with a crocodile print. Faux croc prints look and feel a lot like the real thing. Because of the scales, you really can't tell the difference. Try anything from a clutch to a big, bulky bag. Croc bags will give an everyday outfit, like jeans and a T-shirt, a more elegant twist. They also make terrific evening purses. A faux croc clutch is all you need to top off your favorite LBD. They are completely neutral and go with virtually any color or look.

Stick with Leather

This one is tricky. Watch out, because pleather handbags sometimes can look really cheap. If you don't believe in real leather, Web boutiques carry hip and trendy faux leather handbags under $100. Department stores also have some stylish faux leather bags well under $100. If you are not opposed to real leather, many fashion companies carry leather purses at cheaper prices, with giant leather satchels and hobos between $150 and $300.

Designer Deals

Always remember to look for designer deals. Off-price stores carry designers like Coach and Dooney and Bourke at half the cost. Stylist expert Pamela Pekerman says, "Off-price retail shopping is amazing for anyone looking for quality pieces that are on trend and at affordable prices. Sometimes the finds will make your heart skip a bag-a-licious beat!" Visit department stores in August and January. This is when they have the steepest discounts, with new items coming in for the upcoming season. This trick is great for clothing, too!
