There are more than enough occasions when you need a fancy, schmancy pair of shoes to show off. The Christian Louboutins and Gucci pumps certainly have their place -- some of the treasures in your closet -- but then there are those other times when you want a more casual, hip shoe to wear out. There are certainly more than enough options, so you can dress down casual when you want, but without looking sloppy.
Ankle Boots
Ankle boots work no matter what the weather or ensemble. Whether you opt for a flat pair or some with a heel, ankle boots are fab because they don't cover up a lot of your gams, leaving your legs looking long and lean. They instantly add a chicness to any outfit and can be worn with bare legs, over tights, leggings and jeans. Talk about versatility. Stock up on a couple of pairs; some in a neutral shade that work with anything, and a few in bright shades to add a punch of color to an outfit.
Gladiator Sandals
Gladiator sandals are fun and edgy but create a more casual look when you opt for a flat-soled pair. You still get the chic look of the straps around the top of the shoe, but avoiding a sky-high heel means the shoes work with more casual outfits. Wear them with some rolled-up boyfriend jeans and a blazer for a day out boating, or with a pair of high-waisted shorts and a pretty blouse for brunch with your girlfriends.
Flats
Ballet flats are trendy, chic, casual and comfortable. Could you want anything more in a shoe? They can be dressed up or down, simply with a change of color or in the detailing on the shoe. Plain khaki-colored or pink flats look lovely during the day, or opt for a black or gray pair with bow or zipper detailing to fancy it up for night.
Boat Shoes
No, you don't have to own a million-dollar private yacht to rock a pair of boat shoes. Boat shoes are preppy and casual, perfect for lounging around in during the spring and summer seasons. They're never plain or boring, and look fab with jeans and khakis, particularly with a rolled-up cuff at the bottom. Try wearing your boat shoes with rolled-up boyfriend jeans for a really chic, stylish look.
