From hydration to firming your gorgeous dermis, carrier oils can be the way to fabulous skin. In some products, these almost-magical oils give you that glow you crave. So what are you waiting for, divas? Get firming and get that fabulous radiant skin you deserve.
Carrier Oils
Carrier oils are basically vegetable oils derived from the fatty portion of a plant, like the seeds, kernals or nuts. Doctor Howard Sobel of Skin and Spa Cosmetic Surgery Center in New York City says that carrier oils are used to carry the essential oil onto the skin. This happens by diluting the essential oil with the carrier oil before it’s applied to your glamorous skin.
Benefits
Carrier oils are great for smoothing the skin. Doctor Howard Murad of the Murad Spa in El Segundo, California says that the oils taken from avocados, nuts and olives are the most beneficial. He reports that these oils hydrate the skin and create a radiant complexion. Tawny Agriam of Tawny Health and Beauty in Santa Monica, California, says that carrier oils also have anti-inflammatory and antioxidants, which makes it useful for all skin types. However, she says this is more commonly seen in skin-care products for dry and dehydrated skin. Hydrated skin means firmer-looking skin.
Side Effects
Although carrier oils are fabulous for the skin, women should be aware of what they use and when they use it. Doctor Murad suggests it's best to look for products infused with carrier-oil ingredients. He strongly recommends not applying the carrier oil you may find from various veggies directly onto the skin. Even though it can firm the skin, Dr. Murad says that if applied directly, it can clog pores and even lead to breakouts.
Products
Various products exist that are infused with the goodness of carrier oils. Agriam loves evening primrose oil, sweet almond oil, jojoba oil and rosehip seed oil. However, she says to look for products with these oils, like Odactite Beautiful Day Moisturizer, which has coconut oil, olive oil and jojoba oil infused in it. Doctor Sobel recommends looking for apricot oil for dry skin because it’s enriched with vitamin A, and jojoba oil for sensitive skin because of it’s soothing properties. He also recommends Nature’s Alchemy Sweet Almond Oil, which he says is great to add to washes or lotions for daily use.
