If you think about it, swimsuits experience a lot of abuse. They are constantly exposed to nasty chlorine, which can fade and damage them. Swimsuits get beat up by the sun and are continually stretched and tugged at to fit over our bodies. With all this mistreatment, it only makes sense that swimsuits require a bit of extra care. Since they are made out of different material than most clothing and they experience rigors your typical wardrobe items do not, they must be handled differently than the rest of your clothes. With a bit extra work and consideration, you can likely make your cute suit last.

1.

Step into the shower with your suit on --- not your birthday suit, your bathing suit. Allowing clean water to penetrate your suit protects if from that nasty chlorine, as the more water in your suit, the less chlorine it's able to soak in.

2.

Squirt your suit off with water immediately after taking a dip. Rinsing the harmful chlorine or salt off of your suit can prevent fading and damage to the suit's material.

3.

Hand-wash your suit. When caring for a bathing suit, you can't be lazy, or else you risk a suit that pills or sustains other material damage. Hand-wash your sexy suit with a mild detergent. The rough movement of the washer is often too much for the suit's material to handle. Plus, hand-washing the suit will prevent it from staining other clothes, as new suits often bleed during their first few washings.

4.

Lay the wet bathing suit on a clean towel and proceed to roll the towel with the bathing suit inside. Then give the towel a little squeeze. This nifty trick helps to remove excess liquid from the suit without causing it harm. Hang the suit to air-dry inside your home. Never let it dry outside, as the sun causes damage to the material.

5.

Slather on your sunscreen and lotions carefully to prevent contact with the suit. The oils inside these products break down the elasticity in your suit, causing a funky fit.

Tips & Tricks

When looking cute and dipping your toes in the pool, always remember to protect your bottom by sitting on a towel. The abrasive ground causes the material to snag, causing pills on the suit where it covers your sexy derriere.
