Your face is a precious asset. You want to look beautiful and ageless, just like the celebrities. The difference is, you don't have all that cash to flash on beauty serums, plastic surgery and who knows what else they use? Proper facial skin care is straightforward and doesn't require expensive facials or designer creams. You can take care of your facial skin at home. After all, you know your skin better than anyone, so who better to take care of it? Besides, just think of all the cash you'll save.
1.
Wash your face in the morning with a gentle cleansing foam or gel and lukewarm water.
2.
Apply a toner designed for your skin type, such as dry, oily or normal.
3.
Use a moisturizer also targeted for your skin type. Even women with oily skin or acne should moisturize with a water-based moisturizer.
4.
Apply your makeup as usual, if you wear it.
5.
Wash your face again at night with the cleanser, whether or not you're wearing makeup. Never leave makeup on overnight, because it can clog your pores. Not to mention what it will do to your pillowcase. Yuck!
6.
Apply toner and moisturizer again.
7.
Use an exfoliant 1 to 2 times each week, after the toner and before the moisturizer. Make a simple homemade exfoliant from 1/2 c. uncooked oatmeal and 1 tbsp. honey. Mix to form a paste and apply it to your wet face. Remove the exfoliant after 10 to 15 minutes with a damp washcloth.
Maintain a healthy lifestyle by eating right, reducing stress, exercising and avoiding smoking. All your skin, not just your face, will thank you for it.
Avoid direct sunlight on your face, particularly between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., when the sun is at its strongest.
Besides oatmeal and honey, you can create other types of exfoliants at home. You'll need a course item and a liquid item. A combination of corn starch and apple juice is good for oily skin. Cucumber or avocado add moisture, and coffee grounds stimulate the skin while removing bacteria.
Makeup remover is generally unnecessary and can be drying to the skin. A meticulous wash with your facial cleanser should remove all makeup.
