There was a time not too long ago when wearing peep-toe shoes with tights was considered pretty tacky. Luckily, fashion rules are changing. These days, tons of those old rules are falling by the wayside. And that means you get to have more fun with your look. And, yes, you can wear your peep-toe shoes with tights.
How to Wear It
Before you pull out your peep toes and tights, you've got to know how to wear them. First, know the difference between tights and pantyhose. Tights look totally chic with peep toes. Pantyhose look matronly, so stay away from them and stick to those thicker tights. When you pair those tights with your peep toes, show a little leg by slipping them on under a skirt or dress. If you want to go fashion-forward, wear them with shorts. As long as you're showing some leg, it's all good.
Designers and Editors Love It
Designer Nicole Miller rocked the look at a New York City red carpet event in April 2011, pairing opaque black tights with peep-toe booties. Even the editors at Style.com predicted that fashion girls may wear Proenza Schouler's fashion-forward peep-toe booties from their resort collection with tights in the cooler months. So don't be scared to rock your peep toes with tights. You've got a lot of industry support behind you.
So Do Celebs
Any time celebs wear a trend, you know it's got to be hot, especially when they're wearing it during Fashion Week. "The View" host Elisabeth Hasselbeck sported the look at the Milly show at New York Fashion Week. Actress Liv Tyler has been seen sporting the look too, proving the look really does have star power.
Try Something Fun
Rather than wearing black tights, go for a shade that matches your colored shoe for a more interesting look. Not only is it tres chic, but it totally elongates the leg, giving you a lean, flattering look. Have fun with texture, too. If you think your peep toes are kind of boring, a patterned tight is just the thing to take your look to the next level.
