Slouch boots are the shoes to wear when comfy chic is the look of the day. So comfy ... so loose and stylish ... so classic, yet chic! The right pair can take an outfit from a 5 to a 10 immediately, with little effort. Yes, slouch boots look terrific with casual dresses. You'll turn every head in the room when you rock the combo.
Hemlines
Angie Cox, writer of the blog "You Look Fab," states, "It’s important to raise the hemline of the skirt or dress with slouch boots." Otherwise, the looks turns dumpy and bottom-heavy. Above the knee is the name of the game for the hemline, so make it a mini and flaunt it. Snug or tight hemlines work with slouch boots, but just watch out that the hem isn't an handkerchief hem, or some other odd finish. There's already a lot of texture going on with the boots. Don't overdo it.
Boot Height
Pairing slouch boots with a casual dress also requires a bit of thought in regard to height. If you're a tall chica, you can get away with thigh-high boots. Shorter ladies, however, might want to avoid these taller versions of the slouchy boot. The reason? The taller boot takes away length, and shortens the amount of leg between boot top and hemline. Avoid pulling this visual choppy faux pas.
Pantyhose, or Not?
The pantyhose question is completely up to you. If bare legs make for a chilly, shivery day, then cover up the gams. In summer, or other times when it feels right, go bare. All sorts of tights look good with flat slouch boots, including fishnets, opaques and sheers. Avoid knee- and thigh-highs, however. The slouchy boot already adds texture and a line across the leg. Do you need yet another?
Boot Styles
Pair a simpler boot with a more ornate dress, or a fancy boot with a super clean style. Slouch boots come in all sorts of fun shades and varieties, so you may need a few pairs to match all the moods in your closet. Try boots with strong colors, beadwork or sparkles to liven up a really laid-back frock. Remember that velvet and fancy fabrics can kick your casual dress up a notch, making it instantly more fancy. Otherwise, keep the comfy look with soft suede or leather slouchy boots. Either way, you'll look sleek and stylish as you strut down the street.
