Peep-toe platform pumps can be a woman's greatest ally. They add comfortable height, show off a little toe cleavage and dress things up just enough without going too far. So what's a girl to do when the weather gets chilly and going out bare-legged just isn't an option anymore? Sheer stockings with peep-toes might be a no-no, but there are plenty of stylish ways to keep your tootsies warm.
Don't: Sheer Stockings
Sheer hose and peep-toes are far more grandma-chic than ought to be allowed on anyone under 60. To put it bluntly, the semi-see-through look of stockings, especially nude ones, creates an awkward look with peep-toes. Plus, why go sheer when runway designers are loving opaque right now and they're warmer anyway?
Do: Opaque Neutral Tights
Buh-bye hose, hellooo tights. Opaque neutral tights are far more fashion-forward than their sheer predecessors. For a more formal affair or a day at the office, choose a neutral black or gray. To add a little more interest, you can go with a textured tight instead. The hidden benefit of going opaque? No need to up-keep that pedi!
Do: Opaque Bright Tights
For a trendier look -- say, for a night out on the town -- choose opaque, bright tights with your peep-toe heels. With an LBD, bright red, turquoise or purple makes a major statement, and it upgrades a blah outfit on a budget. Stock your closet full of rainbow brights, because this style is all about contrast -- it works with shoes of any color.
Do-ish: Socks
You've probably seen the socks and peep-toes or sandals thing on runways and thought, "Huh?" The truth is, sometimes this look works and sometimes it doesn't. For starters, preppy lace-trimmed or argyle socks make this potential faux pas look intentional. To finish the look, though, a traditional shoe style is a must. Basic pumps or Mary Janes work perfectly. On the other hand, more updated styles with intricate heels or other modern styling don't. When in doubt, consider your destination -- if fashion-forward youngsters are the majority of the crowd, go for it. Your traditional office? Maybe not.
