Silk is gorgeous, though it doesn't do much to keep you warm. That makes it pretty tough to wear during the winter months without freezing, right? Well, maybe not. Don't store your silk pieces up for the winter just yet, ladies. Instead, learn how to wear your silk during the cooler months and still keep warm.
It's All About Layering
You'd be surprised what springtime wear you can get away with sporting in the winter if you layer. Piling on the clothes is the key to taking your silk look from summer to winter, so don't be afraid to layer your silk pieces with other, warmer fabrics to make them work for you all year long.
How to Do It
If you have a silk blouse that you just can't do without, wear it under a sweater. Try layering it under a cardigan, or a chunky V-neck or scoop-neck sweater. Make sure to let the collar peek out and, if you want to show more of your silk, scrunch up your sleeves and show off the arms of the blouse, too. Silk skirts look cool and fashion-forward layered over thick opaque tights or leggings.
Get a Silk Coat
Instead of sticking to silk pieces that are light, try one that's a little bit heavier. Silk coats are generally made of silk and another heavier fabric or silk that's layered over itself in a way that makes it warmer. Regardless, sporting a silk coat is a definite way to wear this fantastic fabric during the wintertime. Wear yours over a frock for the perfect finishing touch, or use it to dress up jeans.
Get Creative
Think about other ways you can work silk into your outfit. Try wrapping a chic silk scarf around your neck. Get a super-long scarf that you can wrap tons of times to keep your neck warm and toasty. Then, just throw it over a sweater and pair of jeans or leggings, and finish off with boots. And just like that, you've incorporated silk into a perfect wintertime look.
