Blazers are a fantastic staple piece. They can dress up a look, make it more conservative, or make it more polished. And they work with tons of things, from jeans to dresses and skirts, and even shorts. They also look fab with dress pants. If you have a navy blue blazer, feel free to slip it on with black dress pants. It totally works.
Why It Works
Black is a neutral shade. While navy isn't considered quite as neutral as black, it's still one of those colors that works with pretty much any shade. So, your navy blazer and black pants become a perfect match. Wearing navy on black instead of black on black is a fantastic way to sport an elegant, slimming look while still varying your colors a bit, making your outfit that much more interesting.
How to Wear It
If you're working with a fitted blazer, balance out your proportions by opting for a wide-leg black pant. Or, make your look a bit more fashion-forward by wearing it with a harem pant. If your blazer is long and/or loose, it will look amazingly chic with cigarette pants.
Pulling the Look Together
You can go one of two ways with your navy blazer and black pant. You can stay neutral, slipping on a white, gray or black top under your blazer. Or, you can add a pop of color. Try bold yellows, rich pinks and bright oranges to spice up your look.
Who Loves It
If you're looking for a little more inspiration, or if you're still not sure about rocking the look, get a little guidance from your favorite celebs. Drew Barrymore sported a navy blazer and black pants at a cocktail party for designer label Rag & Bone. Reese Witherspoon switched it up a bit by wearing her navy blazer with a black skirt. Different bottoms, but the same idea. Black and navy is super chic, so try it out for yourself.
