To wear or not to wear the ankle boot (or bootie) during summer? We say, go for it! Because they stop at the ankle, these boots give your legs more room to breathe than taller boots, which makes them OK to wear in summer. Before you get too excited, remember: Just because ankle boots are good to go in summer doesn't mean there aren't some rules you should follow to pull off the look.
Stay Away From Suede
Suede is without a doubt a fall/winter fabric. No matter how cute your suede booties are, just say no when the weather warms up. Not only will your toes get super sweaty and possibly stinky, you'll look slightly foolish. Save the suede for colder weather, and opt for ankle boots made from other material.
If it's summer, you may as well brighten up. Throw on a lighter colored bootie to finish off your look. Neutrals are super trendy and are perfect summer colors. Try tan, gray or even white ankle boots to make your look seasonally appropriate.
Try a Summery Bootie
If you're still a little scared about wearing an ankle boot in the summer, find a more summery version of the popular shoe. Try a peep-toe boot to give your toes a little room to breathe and show off your pedicure. If you wanna go even further, throw on a cage bootie. Cage booties are a combination of a sandal and an ankle boot, giving you the best of both worlds.
Watch What You Wear With It
Make sure to wear your ankle boots with summery pieces. Stay away from jeans and other longer pants. Slip on a romper, dress, skirt or pair of shorts instead. Up the ante and pair your ankle boots with brightly colored or floral pieces for a truly summery look. If you really want to wear longer pants, try a flowy harem pant made with lighter, more breathable material.
