Overview
Just because the temperature dials down, doesn't mean your style has to as well. You can jazz up even the most simple sweater and jeans combo with a sophisticated linen jacket and bright, chunky accessories. It might seem odd to pair a lightweight linen fabric with a chunkier sweater; however, there are ways to layer these pieces to make it fashion forward and cozy at the same time.
Sweater Type
If you are going to pair a linen jacket with jeans and a sweater, then the sweater type has to be right. In other words, your bulky cable knit sweater that keeps you warm on a cold day won't do the trick. However, your lighter angora version probably will. The lighter the sweater, the better this look works, particularly if the jacket in question is somewhat fitted or tight.
Jacket Choice
Consider the fact that you may want to wear this jacket again without a sweater, so you don't want to purchase a version that's too big. After all, linen is meant to have a kind of fitted look to it; too loose simply doesn't look good unless you are Uncle Johnny in a summer linen leisure suit. The jacket should fit comfortably through the arms, with the cuff stretching to the end of your hands. It should fall about mid-hip and when worn with a sweater, should be unbuttoned.
Accessories
Accessories are the key to really pulling this look off well. If your sweater has any length to it at all, belt it. A linen jacket, skinny jeans, a funky sweater and a huge belt is a stylishly delicious combo. You can also do chunky turquoise jewelry if you want added texture, particularly in light of the smoothness of the jacket.
Shoes
Okay, so you're wearing a linen jacket, so there's no half-stepping here on the shoes. In other words, you can't wear linen and then head south to your toes to find Birkenstocks. Classic pumps or strappy stilettos work well for this look, as do colorful wedge sandals and a traditional leather ankle boot. The choice of shoe is dictated by where you are wearing your ensemble.
