Overview
If you have two good things, will combining them as one increase their power? Both Bio-Oil and cocoa butter are moisturizers used to treat everything from dry skin to stretch marks. Sometimes fighting dry skin can feel like a war, and cocoa butter with Bio-Oil sounds like the perfect soldier. Mixing the two and using them as a single product won’t decrease the effectiveness of either product, but there’s no real reason to do it either.
Bio-Oil
Bio-Oil is a South African product that is made to soften your skin and get rid of scars. A review in Seventeen Magazine says it can improve uneven skin tone if applied for six weeks. Bio-Oil can actually be used on skin and hair, according to Women's Wear Daily.
Cocoa Butter
Cocoa butter is a great moisturizer, but don’t look to it for scar removal. According to WebMD.com, it isn’t effective at healing scars. However, it is an inexpensive and easy-to-find moisturizer. Plus there are lots of variations -- it even comes in stick form as 100 percent pure cocoa butter. Even scented cocoa butter and bath products with cocoa butter are only a drugstore trip away.
Mixing
If you’re going to mix them together, start with a few squeezes of cocoa butter lotion in a small bottle. Add some Bio-Oil. Cap the bottle. Shake until mixed. Since Bio-Oil and cocoa butter aren’t substances made to blend, you may end up with a sore arm from all the shaking, but you should eventually get a concoction you can apply as one.
Tips
While you can mix the products together, why bother? Just rub Bio-Oil on your skin where you want it and wait for your skin to absorb it completely. Then smooth on some cocoa butter. Both are made to hydrate your skin, but Bio-Oil is going to feel greasier going on than cocoa butter.
