Storing your mink coat properly is necessary when it is not in use to prevent it from drying out and to protect it from dirt, mold and mildew. Furs can take on an off odor even if properly stored. If your mink coat's summer storage left it smelling a little off, take a few easy steps to keep your mink smelling fresh and keep you feeling fabulous in your fur.

1.

Lay your mink coat down onto a flat, sturdy surface. Something like a large table or desk will work perfectly. You will want to make sure that the surface you lay your coat down onto is free from any dirt or debris.

2.

Sprinkle sawdust throughout the mink fur. Sawdust is ideal to use to freshen a mink coat, since it will absorb any oils or offending odors that can cause your coat to smell musty or old.

3.

Shake away the sawdust from your coat (you may want to do this outdoors). Then, vacuum off the remaining sawdust particles from your mink coat, using a hand-held vacuum.

Tips & Tricks

Store your mink coat in a cool, dry place at all times on a broad-shouldered hanger. Do not cover it with plastic or a garment bag, and avoid storing it in a cedar-lined closet.

A professional furrier can provide regular cleaning for your mink coat, keeping your fur coat looking fabulous; aim to get your mink professionally cleaned at least once a year.

Avoid wearing perfumes and lotions while wearing your mink coat, as this can damage the fur.
