If you're a plus-sizer, you might be thinking that the super tight fit of jeggings makes them a major fashion don't for you -- but think again. Don't tell yourself that jeggings just aren't for you, because with the right attitude and style, you can pull them off whether you're a size 0 or in the double digits. You need to put a little work into the outfit, but once you do, you'll be working it hard and looking slim -- all without cutting off the circulation to your ankles.
Stretchability
Though jeggings are known for combining the tight fit of leggings with the texture and toughness of denim, you need a slightly more forgiving fabric blend to make this look comfortable. The trick is to find a pair of jeggings with stretch -- not uncommon in higher-size pairs -- so the fabric gives a little and doesn't choke your thighs. Not only that, it staves off a common enemy of the plus-size denim lover: the button-shaped lower tummy indentation. Spare yourself, and go for stretchy fabric.
Create Height
Once the jeggings are on, you need to enhance them a little -- otherwise, you may look squat or uncomfortable. One way to avoid the "little teapot" look -- also known as short-and-stout -- is to give yourself a vertical boost. By making yourself look taller, you make your jeggings look like a more natural fit. Start with heels and move on to a long shirt. For bonus points, cinch the shirt high with a belt to create a slimming, elongating empire waist.
Cover Up
You don't want to just make yourself look taller and slimmer -- you have to show a little modesty. If you have thick thighs or an apple bottom, you risk looking like your butt wants to escape your pants. Avoid the too-tight look -- and an unflattering muffin top -- by layering to cover up a little. You already know that a long shirt covers your waistline and bikini area, but even a tailored jacket such as a trench coat keeps you covered without looking like you're hiding something.
Wash and Weight
To make sure your jeggings work with your figure, choose a pair with a dark wash. Don't stop there, though -- plan the rest of your outfit around your jeggings to make sure they aren't too conspicuous. Pair your dark jeggings with a top featuring a bold, large print. This draws the attention up and away from your legs, culminating in a combination that's sure to turn heads for all the right reasons.
