How to Camouflage Large Hips in Skirts

Pleated skirts, like what Jessica Alba rocked at the 2011 Clinton Foundation Gala, help keep curves under wraps.

You're a babe who's got back and you know how to work it. Your curvy body has surely had tongues wagging and eyes just about popping out of their heads. But sometimes you don't want to put all you've got on display and want to hide your heavenly hips. Forget about wearing big and bulky skirts -- they'll only make you look like you've gained a few. Instead, don stylish skirts that conceal your hips but still leave you looking uber sexy.

Slip on a pleated skirt. You may think you've left those things back in private school, but you should give them another chance. The vertical pleats not only make your body look longer -- and ultimately leaner -- but the pleats hide those full hips. Go with a darker color to appear even more svelte. Pleated skirts that hit an inch or two above your knee work best.

Put yourself in a poufy skirt. A skirt that has a little oomph to it can help conceal your curvy lower body, especially when the hem comes just above your knees. Don't go overboard, though. You want the skirt to come out just a small amount to give your hips some coverage -- not so much that you look like you're wearing a Halloween costume. Show a little arm and leg when rocking this skirt to balance out the pouf and draw the eye to these luscious areas.

Step into an A-line skirt. This stylish skirt is shaped just as its name implies -- like an A. The skirt flares out at the bottom, which is perfect for hiding curvy hips. Rocking an A-line that hits right at your knees works best for disguising your hips and balancing your body. Pair the skirt with some stilettos and your legs will look never-ending.

Pair tops that help to balance out your body when rocking these stellar skirts. For instance, sleeveless and halter tops attract attention to your upper body, which makes your hips less noticeable. Throwing a military jacket over your shirt is also helpful, as its wide shoulders make your upper body look better portioned with your full hips, resulting in a super sexy silhouette.

Tips & Tricks

Avoid skirts that are snug-fitting. They will only enhance your hips and put them on full display.
