An oblong face shape is roughly the same width from top to bottom, usually having a prominent forehead and wide chin. Oblong face shapes can struggle with updos because the shape widens your face and makes your chin appear broader. There are, however, various bridal updos that can complement your face shape and make you look as special as you will feel on your big day.
Bangs
Bangs frame your face and accentuate your features. By wearing a bang with your updo, you automatically add a dressier and more glamorous element to your look. With an oblong face, a bang will enlarge your eyes and make your face appear smaller. Go for a straight-across blunt bang, or a sleek side bang.
Large Bun
Wearing a large bun on your wedding day is a high-fashion statement. A high bun is usually quite large and rests directly on the top of your head. This creates an automatic fashion-forward look and commands attention. This style also works particularly well with veils and larger head dresses. The large bun makes your face and head appear smaller in comparison.
Half Updo
A pretty half updo is ladylike and elegant. The height of the hair brings your face shape into proportion and the loose hanging hair draws the eye line down and distracts from a thicker jaw. For extra body, go for a loose curl and create a tousled look.
Side Chignon
A sleek side chignon will give you an effortlessly chic look on your big day. Wearing a tousled chignon to the side is elegant and alters your block-like face shape. A side chignon is the best way to challenge an oblong face shape, without creating a messy or immature look. It should be tousled for effect, but it should be fastened securely.
