Brand Names of Low-pH Shampoos

The pH level may not be the first (or the last) thing that you think of when buying shampoo, but if your hair's dull, dry or color-treated it might be worth a thought or two. Shampoos with pH levels below 7 are called low pH or acidic. Although acidic shampoos might sound like something to steer clear of, they add shine and moisture and help those expensive color treatments last longer. When buying low-pH shampoos, look for brand names that carry them in their line of products.

Chi is a line of haircare products produced by Farouk Systems in Houston, Texas. Standing for Catatonic Hydration Interlink, the Chi brand carries a low-pH shampoo called Chi Curl Preserve that's meant to help moisturize and tame the frizzies that often plague girls with curls. In addition to its low pH, the shampoo in the green bottle also contains protein and amino acids meant to assist in strengthening and protecting your locks.

Ouidad is a salon chain as well as the brand name of hair products designed primarily for girls with curls. Named after an award-winning hairstylist and founder of the brand, Ouidad offers a low-pH shampoo called Clear and Gentle Essential Daily Shampoo. The shampoo's gentle formula is meant not just for curly locks but color treated curls as well. Because it is low pH, it's also meant to help pump up the shine and volume. Ouidad's Clear and Gentle shampoo contains jojoba seed oil, wheat protein and vitamin E.

Bumble and Bumble

Bumble and Bumble is the catchy name for a line of professional hair care and styling products as well as a network of salons internationally and across the United States. This brand carries a line of low-pH shampoos called Color Support. These shampoos are meant to help maintain the intensity of color-treated hair and are available in true red, cool or warm brunette, and golden or cool blonde varieties.

Joico is the brand name of professional-grade hair care and styling products. Originally a chain of salons founded by hair stylist Steve Stefano in 1975, Joico expanded into hair care products using keratin proteins. The brand's low-pH offering is a shampoo called Joico Body Luxe Thickening Shampoo. It's designed for limp-locked ladies who want to add volume to their tresses. The acidic pH levels, as low as 4.5, along with amino acids and the brand's oat protein complex, is meant to be a combo that thickens and protects.
