Perfectly defined eyes can look hot -- in a glamorous, sultry way. Eyeliner can transform your look in an instant, when it works correctly. Sometimes a liquid liner is messy to apply, and a pencil can be so dull it wears off within hours. To find a good eyeliner, try one of these expert-recommended brands.

M.A.C.

"Seventeen" magazine featured M.A.C. Superslick Eyeliner and says it's a fan of its shiny, vinyl-like finish. Editors asked M.A.C.'s senior makeup artist Romero Jennings for a few tips, and he said liquid liner typically lasts longer than a pencil. This liner has a pointy tip at the end of its long skinny cap, which is comfortable to hold and easily apply. According to M.A.C.'s website, this liner dries in 15 seconds and it won't smudge. The tip was designed to not "wobble," making it a cinch to draw the most precise line.

Chanel

"Teen Vogue" recommends Chanel Automatic Liquid Eyeliner. Editors say the water-based formula lasts long to keep your eyes smudge-free. It contains special pigments to prevent running. The slim pen is designed to be comfortable to hold and apply. According to Chanel's website, the pointy felt-tip was designed to deliver a very smooth, precise line.

Celebrities need a liner that will stay put. Lauren Conrad, star of MTV's The Hills, told "Cosmopolitan" magazine she's a fan of Mark brand "On the Edge" Hook-Up Liquid Eyeliner. Editors say it's easy to use to create a subtle cat-eye look, by applying a thin line along your upper lid -- then flicking the tip up at the outer corner. Makeup artist Mai Quynh used the same eyeliner on Miley Cyrus, according to "In Style" magazine.

Pixi Beauty

"In Style" magazine says Pixi's Endless Silky Eye Pen is as satiny and intense as a liquid formula, but easier to apply. It's a pen, in a pencil shaped package -- and designed to glide on, effortlessly. According to Pixi's website, once it dries, the liner won't smudge or even budge. "All You" magazine describes this liner as a creamy pencil that won't skip or tug on delicate skin around the eye area.
