With a braided hairstyle, you can create a romantic, casual, fun or fancy style, depending on what type of braids you create and how you wear them. If you've got an oval-shaped face, you're really lucky because your face has the nicest proportions, a balanced shape, so you have plenty of freedom in picking hairstyles. There are a few braided styles in particular you're sure to love. Give them a try!

Braided Bun

For an instantly elegant style, try a braided bun. Slick your hair back with some gel over the top and around the sides to smooth your hair and get rid of any frizzy flyaway hairs. Hold it in a ponytail at the crown of your head and secure it there with an elastic. Braid down the length of the hair, going slowly so each weave is even and the braid is smooth and flat all the way down. Secure another hair elastic around the ends of the braid. Wrap the braid around the top elastic, forming a bun shape, and use a couple bobby of pins to slip in over the ends to keep the braided bun in place.

Side Braid

A simple side braid looks nice on your oval-shaped face, and it's fun and flirty. You want to make the braid a bit messier to get a loose, playful feel. Start the braid at the back of your head and braid around to the side, going down the length of the hair and leaving the braid hanging over one shoulder. Secure the ends with a hair elastic.

Fishtail Braid

You can wear a fishtail braid either at the back of your head or to one side. Either way it's an intricate looking, interesting braided style that works for casual or more formal occasions. To create a fishtail braid, start by dividing your hair into two even sections. Pick up a chunk of hair from the outside of one section and cross it over to the inside of the opposite section. Do the same on the other side, and keep going with this criss-crossing pattern down the length of your hair until you reach the ends. Use a bobby pin or hair elastic to secure the ends.

Skinny Braids

With skinny braids you get a fun, playful style. They're really easy to do. Style your hair straight. Then pull out a section of hair about 1 inch wide from the back of your head. Braid down the hair and secure the ends with a clear hair elastic. Do this with a second and third section, and continue adding as many more as you want to achieve the desired effect.

Accessories

Since your face is oval-shaped, you can have a lot of fun with different accessories. Add a lovely finishing touch to your braided style with a decorative headband, hair flower, hair clip or other accessory.
