There's a time for sweet and subtle, and there's a time for bling. Show off your star power with bling makeup. The key to doing makeup that stands out from the crowd is going bold with color, contrast, design and finishes. Look to musicians and stage performers for outrageous inspiration. You can rock a bling look at the club or show off your dramatic makeover for a dance performance or sports event.
Show-Stopping Style
One definition of bling makeup is the style of cosmetics you wear for shows and sports events, when you know you will be in the spotlight. To do bling makeup for stage purposes, you need a solid foundation. Apply a primer first to increase the staying power of your makeup. Add liquid foundation and powder to create a smooth surface. Go brighter and thicker than usual with your eyes and lips, as you want people in the back row to be able to see you. Set your bling look with a finishing mist or light dusting of mineral powder.
Styling Power
Whether you're onstage or out for cocktails, your bling look gets amped up with shimmery bases and a top coat of glitter. For thick coats of glitter, some women use glitter glue. However, using a shimmering cream designed for glitter application also suffices. Apply the cream using a swab. When it is still wet, wipe on a generous layer of glitter with another swab or your finger. Let the glitter set for a couple minutes before moving your face.
Colorful Is Cool
Skip the tasteful nudes and nearly-nudes. For bling style, you want bold color contrasts, thick lines and glowing finishes. Place two complementary colors next to each other to intensify their hues. Good choices include turquoise with orange and purple with gold. Jewel tones and metallic hues give you a high-voltage look. For more precise application and a dramatic effect, use liquid eyeliner as an eye shadow.
Bona Fide Bling
Enter a new realm of bling by using mineral powder makeups that are formulated from milled gems. Mineral powder foundations, eye colors and blushes give your look dimension. They create a glittering effect. Play with their translucency by layering them to create a kaleidoscope of color. In general, mineral powder foundations work best on moister skin, as the powder settles into wrinkles on dry skin.
