It has nutrients and vitamins that do some pretty amazing things for your skin. Avocado oil will leave your skin feeling healthier, younger and more vibrant than ever.

Who Avocado Oil Is Beneficial For

Sometimes women worry about what they put on their glamorous face because it may cause more harm than good based on what type of skin they have. There's no need to worry when it comes to avocado oil. Peter Matravers, Pharm.D. and senior vice president of product development at Arbonee in Irvine, California, says that avocado oil is beneficial for all skin types --- even oily skin. It is especially beneficial for women with dehydrated, sun-damaged or aging skin.

What Avocado Oil Is Made Of

Avocado oil is infused with some great things that are very beneficial for the skin. Dr. Michael Gold of Gold Skin Care Center in Nashville, Tennessee, explains that avocado oil contains an ingredient known as sterolins. Sterolins is known to be "associated with improvements in the signs of aging and promoting new collagen development, which then makes it useful for dry and photo-damaged skin." Heather McCoy, esthetician and owner of Natural Grace Organic Beauty Products in New York, says that avocado oil is rich in minerals, protein, lecithin, fatty acids and vitamins A, B1, B2, B5, D and E. All these marvelous ingredients make it a "perfect addition to face creams because it is super nourishing, yet non-greasy feeling when used in the correct amounts," according to McCoy.

What Avocado Oil Does

The list of benefits avocado oil has for the skin is never ending. Faith Zelenko, creator of New York's Bambola Beauty, points out that this amazing oil "prevents the formation of toxic compounds by scavenging free radicals. It moisturizes, nourishes and softens dry skin." Elizabeth Trattner, who is a doctor of oriental medicine and women's health in Miami Beach, explains that avocado oil "prevents bacteria from invading the skin." Another great benefit is that it helps with the treatment of psoriasis against the damaging effects of the sun and decreases healing time.

Where Avocado Oil Comes From

Avocados alone are great for the skin. Studies show avocado oil taken internally as well as applied externally demonstrate favorable skin benefits, according to Matravers. However, he warns "it is not recommended that crude, unrefined avocado oil be used directly on the skin." Matravers describes the avocado oils used in products as a high quality oil, "one that is extracted, purified and standardized to a cosmetic grade oil." He says that avocado oil can be absorbed by the skin "because it's an oil with properties that mimic the natural oils of the skin." The oil is obtained by separation and high pressure filtration. After some safety checks and purity tests, the result is a great source for the skin.
