Tie one on for the simplest of hairstyles. Whether you choose a standard red and white design, or you opt for something fancier or more stylish, a bandana can rescue you from a bad hair day in no time. Go for a bandana hairstyle that will add color and flair to your hair.

Bohemian Classic

Let your hair fall free — waves and curls are welcome for this style. Choose a pretty bandana and fold it into a wide strip. Wrap the headband around your head, covering your forehead and tying it snugly at the back. Your hair will cascade down from the tied wrap in freeform, and the headband will look like a hippie headband encircling your head.

Tied Headband

Fold the bandana into a triangle and then keep folding until you have a long and narrow strip to use as a headband. Place the folded bandana under your hair at the back of your neck and pull the ends up and around your hair to tie them together on the top of your head in a snug knot. When you finish tying the double knot, it will look a little like a bow sitting on the top of your head. Push the bow off center just a smidgen to add a quirky feel to the style.

Head-topping Bandana

Recreate the standard house-cleaning style, but amp up the style factor exponentially. Pull your hair back into a long, low braid or a ponytail at the nape of your neck. If you don’t want to pull your hair back, take a curling iron to it and create a head full of big-barrel curls. Fold the bandana into a triangle. Place the folded edge along your forehead and pull the three corners around to the back of your head. Tie the two side corners together in a tight knot, snagging the top corner into the knot to hold it tight. Your ponytail, braid or curls will peep out of the bandana.

Ponytail Tie

Comb your hair to detangle it. Separate the hair just before the crown of your head and comb it straight up. Give this hair a firm backcombing to tease in some volume. Smooth your hair and pull it into a high ponytail at the crown of your head, being careful not to pull the teased hair too tight — you want to keep that volume at the top of your head. Now fold the bandana into a triangle and then fold it into a narrow strip. Tie the folded bandana around the ponytail and let the tails hang down on either side of the pony.
