Your hair is one of the most stand-out parts of your overall appearance, so healthy and strong locks are a must. Maintaining an equal balance between the protein and moisture within your strands is a bit of a challenge. African American women, most specifically, tend to notice lack-luster tresses, with little moisture and protein. If you frequently find pieces of your hair strewn across all areas of your life or notice that they break extremely easily, it might be time to find the solution to a balance in healthy hair.

Restore the flexibility within your hair, while avoiding breakage and stimulating healthy growth. Seek out and use a water-based moisturizer for your hair. Apply the moisturizer to your hair daily. Moisture exists deep within the strands of your hair. To lock in this moisture, lightly coat your locks with a small portion of coconut oil. Applying both the coat of moisturizer and oil will help keep your hair healthy and flexible.

Strengthen your hair with the addition of essential proteins. Restore your tresses with the use of a deep conditioner once a week. Using a protein-based shampoo and conditioner weekly will help to boost the strength of your strands. Leave-in conditioners are extremely beneficial and will help you see an increase in the strength and sturdiness of your locks.

Repeat this new beauty regime for 30 days to gauge the results of your protein and moisture balance. Take a strand of wet hair between your fingers gently pulling it. If the hair stretches and then breaks, add more protein to your routine. For hair that has no stretch, yet simply breaks or snaps, increase the amount of moisturizing product you’re using. Additional moisture may be required if your hair simply feels dry and rough, as well. Maintain your current beauty routine if you are able to stretch the hair with no significant breaks.

Continue your regime if you have found success or change it up for varied results. Experiment with the use of different products or increase the application of either protein or moisture.
