Many of today's hottest fashion styles call for bras that provide seamless, backless and strapless support. Regular bras don't work under strapless sundresses, backless gowns and one-shoulder blouses. And for most, going braless is not a good option, either. Backless and strapless bras provide the support needed yet are invisible, so they add to rather than detract from the desired fashion statement.
NuBra by Bragel International delivers invisible coverage under sheer and clingy clothing. The bra has two separate cups lined with a skin-friendly adhesive to hold it in place. The separate cups are held together with an adjustable front closure. The adhesive gets tackier when wet so the bra can be worn while swimming. NuBra is very durable, with repeated wear of up to 100 times, according to Bragel. NuBra is available in cup sizes A through C and is sold at various online and brick and mortar retailers.
The best backless and strapless bra for a smaller-breasted woman is one that enhances her natural assets. The Very Bare Backless Bra by Sassybax comes with pushup pads that make the breasts appear larger in the AA and A cup sizes. The silicone lining and side support tabs hold the bra firmly in place. With proper care, Sassybax states the bra can be worn up to 50 times. The Very Bare Backless bra can be worn as a strapless bra or with the removable halter strap. It is available in sizes AA, A, B, C, D, and DD and retails for $79.
The Perks Bra by Pure Style Girlfriends is a strapless and backless bra that can be worn in a variety of ways. Adding the invisible, adjustable straps gives extra cleavage. The straps can also turn the adhesive bra into a demi bra, a pushup bra and a halter bra. The cups are made of a soft satin and have more than 15 hidden holes along the outer cup edge for strap positioning. The Perks Bra comes in band sizes 32 through 36 and cup sizes A through D. The Perks Bra retails for $39.99.
Most strapless and backless bras have adhesive-lined cups that stick to the breasts to keep the bra in place. The Combo Wing Bra by Maidenform uses adhesive, but the adhesive is on the wings of the bra only. The seam-free bra has a low-plunge center so it remains invisible even under low-cut clothing. The cups are made of 100 percent Polyurethane foam and are covered in 100 percent polyester. The bra sells for $32 and is available in sizes ranging from 34A to 36D.
