If you're looking to add a bit of volume to your tresses, try a back-combed hairstyle. Back combing is a fantastic way to add lots of lift and body to your locks. So take your look up a notch and create tons of super cute back-combed hairstyles, from ponytails to updos.
Pumped Up Ponytail
Make your ponytail more interesting and add a voluminous pompadour. To get the look start by blow drying your hair with a round brush. Then using a 1 3/4-inch curling iron, curl large sections of your hair. Section off a section of hair at the hairline going from one outer eye to the other. This is the section you're going to back comb. Use a fine-tooth comb to get the best effect. After back combing, spray that section with hairspray. Pull hair into a low ponytail, leaving out the back-combed section. Then take your back combed section, brush it back and pin it with a few bobby pins at the crown of the head. Take the remaining loose hair here and pin it at the base of your ponytail.
This subtle pinned-back style is chic and simple to do. Start by taking a section of hair in the center crown of the head right along the hairline. Back comb it. Spray it with a little hairspray and back comb it again for even more volume. Pull section to the side and secure it with a few bobby pins. This style looks fab on straight hair, so there's no need to whip out your curling iron.
This toned-down version of the bouffant is the perfect way to work the modern version of that old-school Hollywood aesthetic. Gently tease your hair at the roots. Part your hair in the center. Take a section of hair at the crown of your head, leaving about a half inch of hair free at the hair line to frame your face. Secure the sectioned piece of hair with an elastic band.
Big Bouncy Curls
Make your curls larger than life with this style. To get this style, incorporate a volumizer into damp hair and blow dry your locks in sections. Blow dry your hair until it's almost completely dry. Then roll up your tresses with Velcro rollers. Let them sit for a few minutes. After you remove them, back comb your hair at the crown of your head, add a touch of hairspray and brush out waves.
