How to Apply Brown Eye Liner

Keep your movements slow and steady when using eyeliner.

Brown eyeliner is the workhouse of your eye makeup kit, making any eye color look great. Brown makes blue and green shades pop via contrast, or pairs with brown eyes for the matchy-matchy look. Eyeliner makes your eyes look larger and can enhance any style of eye makeup. The key to good eyeliner is a steady hand, since jerky movements can make you look like a hot mess, not a hottie. Brace your hand on your cheekbone when working with the pencil to keep steady.

1.

Use and eye pencil sharpener to sharpen your eyeliner pencil before use if it's dull, since a dull pencil creates a thick, messy line. Marie Claire suggests freezing eyeliner pencils for 30 seconds before sharpening.

2.

Apply foundation before eyeliner to create an even base all over your face.

3.

Close one eye. Draw a straight line along your eyelid with the brown pencil. Work from the inner crease of the eye to the outer edge, stopping at the outside crease of your eye. Don't pull on the eyelid; work with your eyelid in its natural state.

4.

Open the eye. Use the pencil to draw a line along the lower lid, working from the inside to the outside.

5.

Check your work in the mirror. If you've smudged, dab the smudge area with a cotton swab that's been dipped in makeup remover. For a balanced look, make the eyeliner on top three times as thick as the eyeliner on the bottom, suggests Marie Claire.

6.

Repeat this technique with the second eye to complete your makeup look.
