Tulle is that ultra special, uber fancy netting -- the stuff of bridal veils and dress ruffles. Whether you're making an actual bridal veil with tulle or you just want a pretty hairpiece, you can add tulle to a hair comb with only a couple of stitches and some glue. The finished result promises to be over-the-top glamorous and exceptionally enchanting.
Put a Finished Edge on the Tulle
1.
Decide how much tulle you need to rock your hair piece. If you're making an actual veil, you'll need about 2 yards of tulle. If you're just making a sweet little hair piece, use about 12 square inches of tulle.
2.
Fold the tulle in half lengthwise. Now comes the sewing, but don't worry -- they're just basic stitches so it won't be hard. Thread the needle with 18 inches of thread and tie a knot at the end of the thread.
3.
Sew long, running stitches to fasten the two raw edges together. Leave a tail of thread before the first stitch and after the last stitch. Make each stitch about one-half inch long so you can pull them to gather the tulle. When you have the edge stitched, set the tulle aside for a minute.
4.
Measure the straight edge of the comb so you know how long the gathered edge of the tulle has to be.
5.
Pull the ends of the thread tight to gather the tulle. Pull until the gathered edge is the same length as the straight comb edge and then tie the two ends of the thread tightly to hold the gathered tulle. You now have a nice, neat folded edge of tulle that's gathered beautifully, and is the same length as the comb edge -- perfect for creating your chic hair piece or gorgeous veil.
6.
Place a line of fabric glue onto the gathered tulle edge, and press it onto the straight edge of the hair comb, so that the tulle covers the teeth of the comb. Hold the tulle in place until the glue sets.
7.
Place the hair comb into your hair. If it's a veil, the tulle will cascade down the back of your head and your back. If it's a tiny hair accessory, the tulle will sit prettily on top of the comb. Either way, your tulled hair comb is super stylin' and elegant!
