A solid-color shirt provides the perfect backdrop for accessories. Whether you select beads, brooches, belts, necklaces or scarves, you can play on the solid color in your shirt to make a visual impact. Choose accessories that complement or contrast with your shirt. Just make sure not to overdo with too many competing pieces.
Scarves
A scarf of many colors can add life to your solid-color shirt. For example, if you're sporting an emerald green blouse, liven it up with a scarf that incorporates emerald green and other jewel tones. Play with the scarf to find out the best look for you. Position it evenly around your neck and knot mid-torso or wrap it around your shoulders.
Necklaces
Necklaces come in a wide array of shapes, colors and sizes. If you go for a statement necklace, keep your other accessories small or nonexistent. Choose a chunky or large necklace in a contrasting color -- such orange with a solid blue shirt -- to draw attention to yourself. For an elegant look, choose a long strand of pearls as your accessory. Or keep them short for classic appeal. Wear a black choker with a white or pink shirt for a trendy look.
Belts
Throw on a long or short cardigan and strap on a skinny belt over a solid-color T. Go for a print or solid cardigan. If you go solid, add complementary colors to your T for a pulled-together look. For instance, try an olive T, tan cardigan and brown patent leather skinny belt.
Brooches
Play with one, two or even three brooches to get a look you like. Perch a single stunning brooch between your heart and your shoulder. Go for the bling. Or arrange two or three in the same area. Go for different finishes and shapes for added interest.
